Meghan's $10 Bathroom Floor Makeover — Makeover

Project by: Meghan
Location: Charleston, South Carolina

Our bathroom floor was disgusting. Like, ten year old faux-wood rental apartment sheet vinyl disgusting. Really, the picture does not do it justice AT ALL. I toyed with the idea of putting down vinyl tiles on top (like I did in our kitchen), but the floor is super uneven and I was worried that the humidity would cause the glue to unstick. So, we made peace with it for a year and a half. Flash forward to one month ago when I saw a picture of a painted hardwood floor online (thanks, Pinterest). I thought, I can do that…and for cheap! I already had painter’s tape, primer, and rollers/brushes, so all it cost was the $10 for a quart of porch/floor paint. I had it tinted in Valspar’s Lincoln Cottage Black.

This Minimal, Modern Brooklyn Rental Will Make You Believe in Beige Again

Interior designer Maggie Burns describes her Williamsburg rental apartment’s style as “Modern, Eclectic, Cozy, Urban, Minimal.” But I would describe it as a beautiful way to keep a home light and airy by using warm, cozy beige and cream tones (rather than a just all-white palette). Beige has (quite rightly) gotten a bad reputation over the years (mostly due to bland, builder’s grade homes). But in this newly built apartment, beige joins a cadre of other neutral, natural colors to create an elegant composition perfect for a fresh modern look. From the softly-hued furniture and accessories, to a beige kitchen backsplash, to a simple art grid composed of earthy colors over the sofa: This is a home that will make you reconsider beige!

There's More Color in This Modern 360-Square-Foot London Flat Than Most Homes — House Call

Name: Sally Averill
Location: Notting Hill, London
Size: 360 square feet
Years lived in: 2 years, owned

After putting in a few failed offers on flats in the Notting Hill area of London, Sally discovered this mini and modern home and knew it was love at first sight. “I’ve lived in Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland and Australia — I love the light and knew I wanted somewhere full of light but also bold colours. It’s so small so I’ve tried to avoid clutter whilst adding bits and pieces I’ve collected from all the places I’ve lived and worked.” It’s beautiful how Sally has been able to decorate such a tiny home, but even more amazing is how she’s defied the “all-white” vibes many minimal homes have. This space has bold color splashed on big surfaces in every room…pretty impressive in only 360 square feet!
